USA South Takes the Win over Pacific Northwest Selects

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

On January 15, USA Rugby South met the New Pacific Northwest Selects side in Nashville, Tennessee.

This was the Northwest Selects first official match, with most of their players traveling more than 2,000 miles to meet on the pitch in Hermitage, Tennessee. The match was played at the new Sumner County Rugby Park, and several hundred people were in attendance to watch the high-level rugby in the cold rain.

The USA Rugby South Panthers have been a south east selects side for more than 10 years now, traveling as far as Mexico city and Central America. The Panthers came out of the gate firing with a score of 52-12 at half. A hard-fought second half led to a final score of 76-17 where the Panthers claimed victory.

“The score line doesn't do justice to how hard the PNW boys played, but we came out with a plan and came out with a victory...”

The third half was hosted by the Panthers at a local Irish Pub, The Lost Paddy. The USA South Panthers had several trophies made for their opponents awarding the PNW captain with a token of gratitude for making the trip. Everyone is excited to see what the PNW Selects will bring to the table for this new rivalry in the future.
