MTSU Hires New Rugby Coach

The Middle Tennessee school has a new head coach as of January 2022

Lance Houia has been hired as the new MTSU Rugby Coach starting January 2022.


Originally from New Zealand, Houia is no stranger to MTSU, having been a player (Fly Half) and assistant coach from 1999-2001/

Houia brings much experience, having played rugby for over 40 years, and having coached rugby 20 years, including ample national championship representation.


Previously, Houia coached at the University of Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago, Michigan State University, Eastern Illinois University, and University of Illinois, Champagne.


"I am a forward-thinking coach in the future of our sports program. This statement relates to future national championship goals, future performance opportunities in the US national team, and to be one of the top sports programs in the nation. Factors that may cause actual results, performance of achievements to be one of the premier sports programs in the USA, a coach that has over 40 years of athletic experience, a coach that has coached over 20 years and has a proven track record. You are urged to consider statements and goals which used the terms "Champions," "Family," "Brotherhood," "Respect," "Honor," and "Pride,." This will be the foundation of this program," Houia said.



Houia begins rugby training with the team starting in January at MTSU.
