The Major League Rugby (MLR) playoffs are back!

Eastern Conference Semifinals

Today, Saturday, June 11, the conference semifinals kick off with a clash between Rugby ATL and Rugby New York at Silverbacks Park. Rugby ATL is looking to take advantage of playing at home to move on to the conference finals.

“I am excited,” Austin White, Rugby ATL fly-half and starter in the 2021 conference finals said to MLR. “We get to be here in Atlanta, be around our fans, hopefully, be entertaining and be able to come away with a victory. It is exciting, just looking forward to it and getting all the prep done and doing our processes.

I just think all the boys back each other. We try not to think too far outside of our group and try and think from within and just worry about what we can do and worry about the things that we can control on our end, and things go from there.”

This match is a rematch for the two teams of last year's conference finals when Rugby ATL beat New York 10-9. The Georgia-based team then lost in the championship match against the LA Giltinis 31-17. The winner of today's match will face the New England Free Jacks in a week.

Western Conference Semifinals

On Sunday, June 12, the Seattle Seawolves will host the San Diego Legion for the chance to move on to the conference finals.

Seattle and San Diego's paths to the playoffs are different than the traditional way. Due to player compensation violations and detrimental league conduct, both the Austin Gilgronis and LA Giltinis were disqualified from the playoffs.

While Austin and LA were the top two teams in the Western Conference, Seattle and San Diego are still two explosive teams that will put on a good show. This match will continue the playoff rivalry between the two clubs - a long history that includes the nail-biting 2019 MLR Championship match.

The winner of the match will play the Houston Sabercats who will be making their franchise's first playoff appearance.

All matches will be shown on FS2 with full on-demand video on The Rugby Network, 24 hours after the match ends on live TV.
