Chattanooga Men's Rugby and Knoxville Minx Win 2022 True South Division Club Championships

East Tennessee teams take home championships over the weekend

In an action-packed rugby weekend, the Chattanooga Rugby Football Club and the Knoxville Minx took home the 2022 True South Division Club Championships. The tournament was hosted at the Tennessee Rugby Park in North Knoxville.


On Sunday, April 10, both teams clinched another club championship after a weekend of hard-fought matches.

The Chattanooga Men's Rugby Football Club defeated New Orleans RFC for the D2 Men's Championship. Before reaching the Finals, Nooga took on the Birmingham Vulcans on Saturday. They handily defeated them 34-10 in harsh weather conditions.


New Orleans RFC proved to be a more difficult opponent. In a grueling match, the Nooga Men were pushed to their limits but held on to secure the victory. The final score was 13-5, and the team secured their seventh True South Rugby championship.

On the women's side, the Knoxville Minx were the top seeded team in conference play. Their perfect regular season led to an automatic spot in the championship match.


Knoxville played the Chattanooga Queens, the second best team in the conference, in the final match on Sunday. Even with a bye round and playing the next best team, Knoxville prevailed to win the championship.

Both teams qualified for the College Rugby Association of America's National Championship Tournament in Houston with their tournament wins. The national tournament will be held on the April 30 weekend at AVEVA Stadium, home of Major League Rugby's Houston Sabercats.
